Medical marijuana patients in Utah will soon have access to a new recreational cannabis dispensary just across the Nevada state line.

Chief Operating Officer Jon Marshall says Deep Roots Harvest in West Wendover, Nevada is preparing to open its doors, possibly by the end of this week.

Deep Roots Harvest will be the closest marijuana retailer to the Salt Lake City area, at least until state regulators allow private medical marijuana dispensaries to start opening around the state.

Groups like the Utah Patients Coalition are welcoming the opening of the West Wendover location.

But they're also telling all Utah medical cannabis users to strictly obey state laws regarding the possession of medical cannabis products.

West Wendover Mayor Daniel Corona is hopeful the dispensary will help the city's bottom line by creating extra tax revenue.
