The Utah Department of Transportation is doing what it can to reduce the danger of avalanches following the latest winter storm.

The agency closed Little Cottonwood Canyon yesterday so they could trigger an avalanche before it could become a hazard to drivers on State Route 210.

UDOT spokesperson John Gleason said the danger is there because are so many active areas where avalanches can occur.

UDOT plans to close the canyon whenever necessary for avalanche mitigation.
