Salt Lake City police are identifying the man who died after firing at officers during a chase and then crashed his vehicle near the intersection of State Street and 33rd South.

Police Chief Mike Brown says 37-year-old Harold Robinson of West Valley City endangered police officers and the public as he tried to avoid capture yesterday.

Police believe Robinson committed armed robberies earlier in the day at convenience stores in Taylorsville and Millcreek.

One officer suffered a minor injury from a bullet ricochet.

Police have not said if the suspect died in the crash, or if he was shot and killed by officers.

Brown said yesterday that there had been only one report of an injury to a bystander that might be connected to the chase.
