The American Red Cross is sounding the alarm over a shortage of type O blood in Utah.

In a statement Monday, the nonprofit group said they have less than a three-day supply of type O blood for patients suffering emergencies or undergoing medical treatment.

Blood donations are typically down this time of year, with many volunteers unable to donate because of the flu or the winter weather.

The Red Cross is urging anyone, especially those with type O blood, to schedule an appointment to donate through their website.
