Utahns are urging community leaders to move faster to open local pools now that most of the state has moved to a lower stage of COVID-19 risk.

Jodi Stonehocker of Roy wants her nearby aquatic center reopened, but not for herself.

Salt Lake County's parks and recreation department says it plans to reopen playgrounds, dog parks, pickleball and tennis courts, skate parks and open fields and paths and trails in many places today.

However, swimming pools are not set to open until July 1st.  Salt Lake City, West Valley City and Magna remain in the orange, moderate risk stage, so they will not see more facilities open today.

Stonehocker says she's started a petition to pressure community leaders into opening the Roy Aquatic Center as soon as possible.
