The Utah state senator who sponsored a constitutional amendment that banned same-sex marriage has died. Former state Senator Chris Buttars was 76-years-old when he died Monday. The staunch conservative was known for his stands on social issues, especially expanding the rights of the LGBTQ community. Buttars helped gain passage of Amendment Three, which banned same-sex marriage in Utah but was eventually overturned in federal court.
