Reported encounters with black bears in Utah on the rise

The number of reported encounters between humans and black bears in Utah have nearly doubled since 2018.

According to the Division of Wildlife Resources, officers have received 53 reports of incidents involving black bears this year, which is up from 27 the year before.

Encounters included everything from bears rummaging through garbage to actual physical contact.
