A political newcomer who announced his candidacy for Utah's First Congressional District has a criminal history involving sex crimes.

According to records Cory Green had two charges of forcible sexual abuse dismissed in 2010, and two charges of sexual battery amended down to misdemeanors after pleading guilty.

In an interview the Republican candidate claimed he was coerced into the plea after he was extorted by a woman posing as a massage therapist.

Green also stated he has been a target of politically motivated attacks by law enforcement since.
