A state lawmaker wants to keep anyone under 18-years-old from getting married in Utah.

Democratic Representative Angela Romero of Salt Lake City says House Bill 234 would protect women by not allowing them to marry too young.

Current Utah law allows children to marry at 15-years-old with permission from parents and a judge, and at 16 and 17 with just the permission of their parents.

The bill has yet to be scheduled for a committee hearing in the House.
