Early reactions to a possible increase in Utah's sales tax on food are very mixed.

The task force appointed by the Utah State Legislature to reform the state tax code unveiled a list of wide-ranging proposals Friday.

The tax proposal could raise the food tax to four-point-eight-five percent, from its current one-point-seven-five.

Lawmakers say they would include a 75-million-dollar tax cut in their proposal to compensate.

The Legislature has scheduled public hearings at the State Capitol starting tomorrow.
