New legislation at the State Capitol would require more transparency from local animal shelters about how they are getting their pets.

Under Senate Bill 155 from Democratic Senator Karen Mayne, shelters would have to keep public records about how each animal was taken in, as well as the number of animals that die or are put down in the shelter each month.

A committee hearing for the proposal has not been scheduled.
