Lawmakers says the state won't oversee the dispensing of medical cannabis

Utah lawmakers are giving up on a plan to have the state oversee the dispensing of medical cannabis.  Senate Majority Leader Evan Vickers says the state is moving back toward a private dispensary system originally proposed in the medical cannabis initiative voters approved last year.

Hurricane man jailed for having child pornography

A Hurricane man accused of having child pornography is arrested after he skips a court date.  Sixty-six-year-old Russell McGonigle was arrested on a 50-thousand-dollar warrant Tuesday and booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane.

Virus hitting livestock in Utah

The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food issued a warning Wednesday after a Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV), was diagnosed on several premises in two counties in Utah. Authorities said the virus was found in both Uintah County and Emery County and all the premises have been placed in quarantine for the 14 days from the last animal to show symptoms.

Governor discusses school safety

Governor Gary Herbert wants all options to be discussed when it comes to school safety following the latest mass shootings in the U.S.  During his monthly press conference with local media outlets, the governor didn't give specifics about what options he personally supports, but said he wanted to see action from the Legislature.

App gives students chance to report threats

An app that gives Utah students a chance to report possible threats of violence is being applauded by state lawmakers.  A report presented to members of Utah Legislature yesterday finds that the SafeUT app has received over 300 tips alerting officials to potential threats.
