Executives at Intermountain Healthcare plan to talk about the company's position on prescribing medical cannabis today.

This morning's press conference comes after reports that Intermountain's chief physician has written a memo telling doctors they have the okay to begin writing medical cannabis permission letters for patients with qualifying conditions.

Connor Boyack of the Libertas Institute called yesterday's news awesome, saying patient advocates are excited there's a green light to start writing permission letters.

University of Utah Health also said in a statement yesterday that doctors could write permission letters on a case by case basis until it comes up with an overall policy on medical cannabis.

Boyack says yesterday's statement by University of Utah Health is a win for patients who need a doctor's permission letter.
