Republican Senator Orrin Hatch is trying to send a parting message about tolerance and civility before he leaves office. In an op-ed published in the latest issue of Time magazine, the retiring senator encouraged readers to not label reporters as "the enemy of the people" in what he calls an effort to "delegitimize the news establishment." Hatch says conservatives have a right to call out bias in journalism, but goes on to say portraying the Press as a "bogeyman" does lasting damage to democracy. Hatch also points to efforts such as the Utah Compromise, which he says show people with different belief systems can find a way to work together for the betterment of all.
