Governor Gary Herbert believes the federal government needs to delegate more power to the states in the future as the partial government shutdown continues.  In an op-ed published in Politico, Herbert says shifting more power to the states could help "mitigate" a shutdown's "scope and severity" in what he believes is a long-term strategy.  He also expressed aggravation over the failure of federal leaders to accomplish what he called "their most basic responsibility," adding that the dysfunction seen in Washington isn't happening at the state level.
