Governor Gary Herbert is announcing a ban on the use of chokeholds for state law enforcement officers.

The policy change applies to the Utah Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety.

The governor also called on local police agencies to take similar actions as well.

Herbert hinted more law enforcement policy changes could come next week during a special session of the Utah Legislature that will address the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.
