Dr. Dave Blodgett outlined six key ways to live longer, and to live better, on the Andy Griffin Show on Wednesday morning.

Here's his list:

  1. Don't smoke
  2. Keep your BMI between 23-25 - maintain a healthy weight (only 30-40% of adults have achieved this)
  3. Eat 5 cups of fruits and vegetables daily (only 17% of adults have achieved this)
  4. Exercise 30 minutes a day (this is your MAGIC BULLET!!!) - extends the avg adult life by 8 years
  5. Sleep 7-8 hours nightly
  6. Calorie restriction - eat less, don't drink your calories (better diet, eat less food)
