A bill that adds restrictions to abortion passed the House Judiciary Committee in a 9-to-3 vote Wednesday night.

House Bill 166, also known as the "Down syndrome Nondiscrimination Abortion Act," would prohibit women from receiving an abortion should a prenatal screening or diagnostic test indicates the child may have Down syndrome, and the reason for the abortion procedure is because the child may have the disability.

The bill includes provisions that define "Down syndrome" and would require the state department of health to create an informational sheet and webpage on the disability.
