Dixie grabs big win; Tigers move into third, SC gets 1st win
ST. GEORGE – With first-place Pine View on a bye, the Dixie Flyers couldn't afford a slip-up against Cedar Friday night.
But no worries as Dixie broke open a close game in the second quarter and cruised past Cedar 66-47. The game was tied 14-14 when Isaac Finlinson hit a runner in the lane, sparking a 10-1 Flyers run.
Finlinson finished with 16 points as the game would not be close again. Hayden Cottle added 11 as Dixie improves to 6-1 in Region 9 play, a half-game behind Pine View. Cedar is 1-6.
Hurricane grabbed sole possession of third place with a 58-44 home win over Desert Hills. The game was tied at 26 at the half, but the Tigers outscored the Thunder 22-8 in the third quarter.
Bryce Thomas had 15 points and Dominic Scott added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers, who are 4-3 in region play. D-Hills drops to 3-4.
And Snow Canyon finally grabbed a region victory, stunning Canyon View 68-59 at SCHS.
Big man Joey Robertson had 22 points and Cole Warner added 19 as the Warriors go to 1-6 in region play. Canyon View drops to 3-4.
Region play resumes Wednesday with Snow Canyon at Pine View (94.9/890 KDXU), Hurricane at Canyon View and Cedar at Desert Hills (97.7 FM ESPN). Dixie has the bye.
