The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has completed construction of a single level, 14,000 square foot, low security detention facility, which will be known as the Community Corrections Center. The site is located at the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Hurricane. The new building will replace the current, modular-style work release units. These units were initially intended to be a temporary solution, but have now been in use for over sixteen (16) years. As such, the cost and frequency of repairs for the current buildings has increased significantly in recent years. The new building will house approximately 120 low-risk inmates, most of whom will be a participant in the inmate work program.
