The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has made a big change to its comprehensive genealogical database.

It's a change that recently married Utahn Sean Mackintosh really appreciates.

Users of the FamilySearch database can now document same-sex marriages and adoptions on the website.

In the past, users were unable to list any same-sex relationships when building family trees.

LDS Church leaders say the change comes as part of efforts to accurately document families and preserve historical records.

Mackintosh says Utahns will not be the only ones benefiting from the change to FamilySearch.
