A city in California's Bay Area could impose an ordinance that would ban the handling and storage of coal, impacting Utah's coal industry.

Reports state that Richmond serves as a major export hub to Asia for the Levin-Richmond Terminal.

If the ordinance passes in the Richmond City Council, production at mines who use that terminal to export coal could see slowed production, which would then lead to workers losing their jobs.

The ordinance will come to a vote on December 3rd.
