Attorney Wants to Question LDS Church President in Sexual Abuse Case
A lawyer representing a group of people claiming they were sexually abused wants to question the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to see what he might know. Attorney Craig Vernon has filed a motion in U.S. District Court seeking to depose Church President Russell M. Nelson as soon as possible. Nelson's daughter and son-in-law have been accused in a lawsuit of abusing children in Bountiful in the 1980s, a claim they have both denied. Vernon says the lawsuit is stalled in the court system and he needs to depose the 94-year-old Nelson now because important information could be lost if the case drags on.
