The Arizona state official accused of leading a multi-state adoption scam that included Utah has been booked into a jail in Arkansas.

Paul Peterson is in Fayetteville ahead of a 1 p.m. court hearing.

Petersen faces 19 felony counts in that state, including charges of human smuggling and the sale of a child.

Petersen faces similar charges in Utah and Arizona after investigators say he offered pregnant women from the Marshall Islands money to give up their babies for adoption in the U.S.

His next court appearance in Salt Lake City is scheduled for November 15th.
